This is a piece of advice I’ve heard many times, and it ties directly to having a growth mindset. When we aren’t the smartest person in the room, we open ourselves up to learning from those who have more experience, deeper knowledge, or unique perspectives. Surrounding ourselves with people who challenge us encourages growth, skill-building, and continuous improvement.
Of course, stepping into these situations can be intimidating and may even trigger imposter syndrome. But if we push past those feelings, the rewards—both personally and professionally—are invaluable.
Have you ever found yourself as the smartest person in the room? If so, how did it impact your growth?
