Learning Process

August 25, 2026 Roberto Reif

When we begin any new learning journey, such as a starting a new course, a job, or a personal project, we typically experience rapid progress early on. Everything feels fresh, exciting, and full of potential. But eventually, we hit what many call the dip, which is a stage where progress slows, challenges pile up, and motivation fades. This is the point where many people give up, the business idea suddenly feels more complicated than expected, the coding project stops working, or the new skill no longer feels intuitive.

However, if we stay patient, step back to regroup, and push through the dip, we eventually climb into the expert zone, where growth becomes steady and confidence increases.
As an example, imagine learning to code. During the first week, you write your first “Hello, world!” program and feel unstoppable. A few weeks later, you hit debugging challenges that seem impossible to fix. This is the dip. But with persistence, where you spend time searching documentation, asking mentors, practicing, there is a breakthrough.

How have you experienced the dip in your learning journey?
