Progress Takes Time

March 31, 2026 Roberto Reif

Progress is rarely a straight line. In the short term, it can feel frustrating, like we’re putting in effort without seeing results, or worse, like we’re moving backward. It’s not uncommon to feel as though we’re taking one step forward and two steps back.

But this perception often stems from looking at our journey through too narrow a lens. On a daily or weekly scale, progress can appear uneven, filled with stops, starts, and setbacks. However, when we zoom out, looking over months or even years, the picture begins to change. Patterns emerge. Growth becomes visible. We realize that the small, consistent efforts were not wasted, they were compounding.

This is true in learning, in personal growth, in careers, in relationships, and in building anything meaningful. The key is to stay committed, trust the process, and be patient with ourselves.

The real magic happens when we show up, even when it feels like nothing is happening.

How do you stay motivated when progress feels slow?
